Plain-English summary

Standards New Zealand is consulting on six proposed adoptions of international electrical-equipment safety publications and one local tumble-dryer amendment. The package covers cleaners, masonry saws, pruners, edgers, food-waste disposers, UV water-treatment appliances and tumble dryers.

Adopt IEC 60335-2-2 edition 8.0:2026 for vacuum and water-suction cleaners, and IEC 62841-3-17 edition 1.0:2026 for transportable table masonry saws, as joint Australian/New Zealand standards.

Adopt IEC 62841-4-10 edition 1.0:2026 for pole-mounted pruners and IEC 62841-4-11 edition 1.0:2026 for edgers.

Adopt Amendment 1:2026 to IEC 60335-2-16 edition 6.0:2022 for food-waste disposers, and Amendment 1:2026 to IEC 60335-2-109 edition 2.0:2023 for UV water-treatment appliances.

Consider local Draft Amendment 1 to AS/NZS 60335.2.11:2024 for tumble dryers, intended to mitigate identified safety issues.

The committee describes the international adoptions as identical or modified, with Australian/New Zealand national variations where needed. There are seven draft documents in this single consultation round; the complete technical changes and variations require the individual drafts.

Obtain the complete technical draft and verify scope, access and submission instructions before approval.

The complete seven drafts, national variations, transition arrangements and technical effects have not been read or verified. Before approval, check the proposal against those documents and confirm their access links work.

A draft-shop link in the separate heat-pump round returned HTTP 404; this does not prove that these seven links fail. They were not requested, and no substitute document has been inferred.

This is one consultation round containing seven documents. Do not split it into seven independently verified periods or imply that the drafts are already legally mandatory.

The key questions are paraphrased review issues. Full form fields, privacy treatment and a closing clock remain unverified.

Why it matters

The package could change the technical safety standards used to design, assess and supply several household and trade appliances. Consultation does not itself establish legal commencement or compulsory compliance dates.

Who may care

  • Manufacturers, importers, suppliers, testing laboratories and certification bodies for the listed electrical equipment
  • Electrical safety specialists, tradespeople and industry or consumer organisations

How to make a submission

  1. Open the official consultation overview and follow its online submission link. Standards NZ says all public comments should be submitted through that portal.
  2. Read the particular draft or drafts relevant to your equipment and identify which publication and provision each comment addresses. The overview links seven separate draft-shop pages.
  3. The closing date is 11 December 2026; the overview and API give no closing clock. Check the cutoff and form requirements before relying on the final day.
  4. Check document access and the portal privacy and terms information before submitting. The seven technical documents and response form were not accessed in this review.
